New laptop
January 25, 2007 | In: Ничии
I finally got my laptop:
Dell Inspiron 6400
Centrino Core Duo 1.66GHz
512MB RAM, 80GB HDD15.4″ TrueView (от ония гадни и лъскави екрани)
Broadcom WiFi, 10/100 LAN, SD/MMC… Card reader
A Life Less Ordinary dvd
Bluetooth module and etc.
I settled a Ubuntu 6.06 on it and a little partition with WINDOS XP(don’t blame me). No comments for the Windos installation of the periferials - all of a matter of 20 minutes of clicking.
The Ubuntu setup was a little more complicated since the display was 15.4″, but this publication helped me a lot.
I won’t describe a lot the process in English, since the post is quite well written.
The WiFi is still down as long as the Bluetooth module but will finally be done. Looking for some good case for it and I thing I found some… Will appreciate some help with the bluetooth/WiFi installation

Hey, Pascal! Can you tell me how did you activate the wifi and the bluetooth, or you havent yet?

You need to install the ipw3945 driver for the wifi card. The bluetooth worked out of the box under Ubuntu. The wifi card and the bluetooth module should work both out of the box under FC6.
Depending on what distribution you run, installing the wifi drivers and such can be annoying or really simple. What are you running?

So I can’t resolv the actual model of the wifi. At the specs it is written as “Dell™ Wireless 1370 802.11b/g”

If you have the Inspiron 6400 it will be an Intel Pro Wireless 3945 (ipw3945).

As I presumed earlier, the actual model is with a Broadcom chipset (the last line). Here is the ndiswrapper installation howto - http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Installation . The current version of the native drivers is still unstable, so ndiswrapper will have to do the trick - http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=devices
